Jewelry - Gold or Silver?
Dressing is much like decorating a room. You want the colors of your carpet, drapes, furniture, etc. to be in the same harmonious tones, mixed with complimentary colors. It is the same with putting together an outfit, with one important difference... everything looks better when it matches our skin tone. The point is for the outfit to compliment you, not for you to be a walking advertisement for the outfit. If your skin tone is warm (peach/carotene complexion) gold jewelry is for you. If your skin is cool (rose/olive complexion) silver is for you. One way you can tell is to put a fairly substantial piece of gold and then silver jewelry close to your face. Which one draws attention to your face, your eyes and skin and even makes your hair come alive? That is what is right for you. If your eye continually goes to the jewelry then it is not the best choice for you.
If you are interested in finding out more precisely what color your skin tone is, the following sites can get you started. And remember, regardless of what the cosmetic sales person says, your skin tone does not change. If you are cool, you will always be cool, if you are warm, you will always be warm, just perhaps more tan in the summer.

Is that Outfit Right for You?
If you want to know whether an outfit flatters you, or if you are simply an ‘advertisement’ for clothes, one easy way to find out is to do this:
Walk downtown, and in front of the store windows, periodically take a quick glance in the window. If your eyes naturally go to your outfit, it's wrong for you. If your eyes go to your face, then it's right. You can also do this in front of a long mirror if you have enough walking space.
The right colors will enhance your own coloring, drawing attention to your face. The wrong colors will make you look tired or pale, and draw attention to the outfit. This is especially important for women who have presentations to make before groups, because your listeners will not be distracted by what you are wearing. When you have the right outfit on they will be able to focus on the important things you are saying.
Color is the most important element of your outfit. Next is style and then texture.

Accessories - How Many at a Time?
The magic number is "5". No more than five accessories at a time to prevent that 'too-much' look. We can choose each piece to match an outfit, but fail to look at the overall finished effect. Over-stated? Under-stated?
Each piece of jewelry counts as one, except in the case of earrings when both count as one accessory, and a wedding ring counts as a bonus piece.
So, for instance your outfit is a two piece black skirt and top:
You add -
silver earrings
A silver bracelet
Silver and black necklace
Black belt with silver studs
A silver and black onyx ring
If you were to add one or more additional pieces such as a watch or bracelet on the other hand, or a pin on the shoulder, a flower or clip in the hair, an ankle bracelet or toe ring(s) you have over done it. If you choose to wear a ring on every other finger then you have not only used up your five accessories, but have gone over.
Also, too few accessories can make you look unfinished. The dressier the outfit the more you want to use five accessories. Around the house in your jeans and a comfortable top, wearing five may look like too much. But the key is, no more than "5" accessory pieces for the 'perfect' outfit. |

Tip - Create a slim look by wearing clothes all of the same color, or a monochromatic look, ie all of the same color family.
