It’s Spring and time for ‘spring cleaning’ which includes clearing out the clutter. Go through closets, cabinets and drawers to get rid of the excess you've collected so you can make better use of the room you have for the things you need and use.
More benefits:
You'll be ready for Summer fun. Others can enjoy that which you donate (one woman's junk is another woman's treasure). A more relaxed environment for you and your family to enjoy. Peace of mind that comes with an uncluttered, more simple existence.
Young homemakers today lean more toward streamlined, minimalist surroundings than do their Baby Boomer parents who have a tendancy to hold on to things, a throwback from their parents who grew up in the Great Depression era and taught their children to 'keep things in case they need them later.'
Getting Started Tips:
1 - Get three baskets, bags or boxes to use to sort. One for what needs to go to another part of the house; one for what needs to go into storage; and one for what you don't need or use to give away. Let go! Be tough! And don't decide by your feelings.
2 - Allot at least 15-30 minutes a day to your project of clearing out the clutter.
3 - Start in one room and stick with it until you've gone through it completely through. A bathroom may take a week at 15-30 minutes a day, where a larger room may take 2 weeks.
4 - Be systematic. Don't worry about organizing and clearing out at the same time, which can bog you down. First clear out and then go back and organize what you've kept.
We would suggest clearing out the clutter from all rooms first, and then organizing or decorating after. The act of clearing out is a left-brain task, where organizing and decorating tends to be a more right-brain creative act.
